Kerap kali, catatan tentang peristiwa-peristiwa di masa lalu menjadi pembacaan untuk masa depan yang dihadirkan pada hari ini. Catatan atau narasi tersebut dikenal oleh masyarakat kita sebagai ramalan, primbon, hingga tradisi yang berbasis lokasi yang merekam riwayat peristiwa-peristiwa tertentu. Bentuk-bentuk pengetahuan semacam ini menyandarkan kepercayaannya pada ide bahwa segala pengetahuan telah tersedia di semesta, tinggal bagaimana para penghuninya mampu menyarikan hal-hal tersebut menjadi sistem pengetahuan.
Akan tetapi, pengetahuan semacam ini sering disalahartikan oleh sistem pengetahuan modern sebagai takhayul belaka. Berbagai pertemuan, baik dengan sistem, kultur maupun orang-orang baru, telah menggeser keberadaan pengetahuan ini. Kita tak lagi pandai mengakses tanda-tanda yang terserak pada semesta alam dan semesta sosial manusia sehingga kesulitan menyusun kode-kode pengetahuan tersebut. Ia menjadi seakan tersembunyi, rahasia, dan tak terjangkau.
Pada edisi ke-18 ini, 69 Performance Club mengangkat kuratorial “Sandi Kala” yang mengajak para partisipannya untuk menggali kode-kode narasi kolektif yang tercecer, terutama narasi kolektif yang tersimpan dalam teks, baik teks sebagai tulisan maupun dalam konteks yang lebih luas. Narasi ini akan dihadirkan kembali potensi performatifnya melalui teks, gerak dan bentuk serta relevansinya dengan sebaran narasi kolektif di kawasan Asia Tenggara hari ini.
Often, notes about past events are readings for the future that are presented today. These records or narratives are known by our society as prophecies, primbon (Javanese prophecy), to location-based traditions, which record the history of certain events. Such forms of knowledge rely on their belief in the idea that all knowledge has always been available in the universe, and its inhabitants can extract these things into a knowledge system.
However, this kind of knowledge is often misinterpreted by the modern knowledge system as mere superstition. The encounters – both with new systems, culture, and people – have shifted the existence of this knowledge. We are no longer good at accessing signs scattered in the universe, natural and social ones, which makes it difficult to encrypt the codes of knowledge. It becomes as if hidden, secret and unreachable.
In this 18th edition, 69 Performance Club raises “Sandi Kala” or “Time Code” as the curatorial theme. Sandi Kala invites its participants to explore the scattered collective narrative codes and bring back their performative potential, especially the collective narratives reserved in the text, both texts as texts and in a broader context. The performative potential of these narratives will be presented through text, motion, and form as well as their relevance to the distribution of collective narratives in the Southeast Asian region today.
